Security Deposit Rules in Texas
Texas law governs how landlords must handle your security deposit:
- ✓No statutory limit on deposit amount (landlord sets it)
- ✓Must be returned within 30 days of move-out
- ✓Landlord must provide itemized list of deductions
- ✓Normal wear and tear cannot be deducted
- ✓Failure to return: you may sue for 3x the deposit + $100 + attorney fees
